About Sparrowhawk Leather

Hello, I'm Jake Diebolt. And I'm assuming that, since you clicked the link, that you've come here to listen while I ramble and wax rhapsodic about anything that takes my fancy in an indecipherable stream of consciousness.

What's that? You want a succinct summary of what Sparrowhawk Leather is all about? How gauche!

Well, if it can't be helped...

I started Sparrowhawk Leather about a year and a half after I got into leatherwork. The purpose - as with any business - is to make money selling a product. But I can't say that's the reason I started the business.

Shortly after I began making things from leather, I discovered I tremendously enjoyed making real, tangible things, seeing the finished product, and placing it into the hands of another person. It's strange, but I take little satisfaction in making leather goods for my own useage - I'll do it when I need new gear for archery or SCA, but I'd much rather make something for someone else. There's an added challenge there - I might be able to slack on my personal stuff, but when it goes to someone else, cutting corners somehow seems unacceptable.

So that's what Sparrowhawk Leather is about. Making things for people - things that are beautiful, yet durable. Things that will last, made from quality materials that are sourced as ethically and sustainably as possible.

I make all kinds of products. I've made dog collars, leashes, satchels, briefcases, bottles, mugs, quivers, belts... everything from Medieval reenactment gear to every day accessories. Along the way, I've benefitted tremendously from online tutorials and resources. This blog is where I can start to give back. I'll make posts about common pitfalls, lessons learned, and costly mistakes, in the hopes that I can help others the way they have helped me.

If you'd like to see what I've currently got in my Etsy Shop, click Here. I'm always up for a challenge, so please feel free to submit a custom order. If I think I can do it, I'll take it - but if I honestly think it's beyond me, I'll try and recommend someone who can.

I've also got a Facebook page, where I'll post events I'm going to, pictures of ongoing projects, and other odds and ends.

Thanks for reading!
Jake Diebolt
